# Minimum income for Spain’s digital nomad residence in 2026

In 2026 the main applicant must show at least €2,442 gross a month. That is 200% of Spain’s minimum wage (SMI), which Royal Decree 126/2026 sets at €1,221 a month. Add €915.75 a month for the first family member and €305.25 for each additional one. UGE states the requirement per month. Spain Visa Submit does not assess income: we file ready applications with UGE-CE for €80 per applicant.

## The official rule

UGE’s documentation for digital nomads requires “una cantidad que represente mensualmente el 200% del salario mínimo interprofesional (SMI) vigente”, an amount equal each month to 200% of the minimum wage in force. A family of two needs at least 75% of the SMI on top, plus 25% for each additional member. The amounts are gross, before tax and social security. The percentages come from a joint instruction of March 2023, and Law 14/2013 requires the thresholds to be linked to the SMI (additional provision 20).

## The 2026 figures

Royal Decree 126/2026, published in the BOE on 19 February 2026, sets the SMI at €1,221 a month, or €17,094 a year in 14 payments, from 1 January to 31 December 2026. Main applicant: €2,442 a month. With one family member: €3,357.75. With two: €3,663. With three: €3,968.25. The Spanish consulates in Houston and Washington publish the same monthly amounts, rounded to whole euros.

## Why some sites say €2,849

Some websites divide the annual SMI by 12 (€17,094 ÷ 12 = €1,424.50) and double it, which gives €2,849. UGE’s FAQ uses the monthly SMI of €1,221, and the consulates publish €2,442. Multiplying €2,442 by 12 gives €29,304 a year, but UGE does not publish an annual figure.

## How to prove the income

UGE lists payslips or invoices for the three months before the application and a bank certificate for the same months that matches them. If your income is below the threshold, savings can cover the difference for the whole period of the permit. If you own the company you work through, your personal tax return can support the evidence.

## When the figure changes

The threshold follows the SMI in force. When a new SMI is approved, the amounts change with it. This page shows the figures in force on the verification date.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the minimum income for the Spain digital nomad residence in 2026?

€2,442 gross a month for the main applicant: 200% of the 2026 minimum wage of €1,221 a month.

### Is the income threshold gross or net?

Gross. UGE says the amounts are before tax and social security deductions.

### How much do I need with a spouse?

€3,357.75 gross a month in 2026: €2,442 for you plus €915.75, which is 75% of the SMI, for your spouse.

### Can savings make up for lower income?

Yes. UGE accepts savings that cover the difference between your proven income and the required amount for the whole period of the permit.

### Is the threshold €2,442 or €2,849?

€2,442. The €2,849 figure comes from dividing the annual minimum wage by 12, which is not how UGE or the consulates calculate it.
