How to prove your entry date in Spain without a passport stamp
Since 10 April 2026, the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) records short-stay entries digitally and passports are no longer stamped. If you arrive in Spain from another Schengen country and have no Spanish residence permit, you must make a declaración de entrada (entry declaration) to the police on arrival or within three days at any Policía Nacional station. Keep your boarding passes and tickets too. Spain Visa Submit files ready applications from Spain for €80 per applicant.

Stamps were replaced by EES
The EES started on 12 October 2025 and became fully operational on 10 April 2026. Spain’s Ministry of the Interior says manual stamping disappears once the system is fully operational. At the external Schengen border, officers record your face and fingerprints in a digital file, and the EU says your passport will not be stamped. Royal Decree 1155/2024, article 12.4, also says the entry stamp is replaced by EES registration. If you entered before 10 April 2026, your passport stamp may still be your only record of that entry.
Arriving from another Schengen country
There are no border checks between Schengen countries, so no border check records your arrival in Spain if you fly in from, for example, France or Germany. Royal Decree 1155/2024, article 13: non-EU nationals who enter Spain from a Schengen state and have no Spanish residence permit must declare their entry in person to the Spanish police. If this is not done on entry, it must be done “en el plazo de tres días” at any Policía Nacional station. Nationals of Andorra, Monaco and San Marino are exempt. The official form cites article 14 of the decree, while the BOE text places this duty in article 13. Make the declaration as early as possible: we found no official rule on how the three days are counted.
What to keep as evidence
EU rules say that if your EES record is missing, you can rebut a presumption of overstay with “credible evidence, such as transport tickets” (Schengen Borders Code, article 12). Keep boarding passes, tickets, the declaración de entrada if you made one, and booking confirmations. The EU’s official tool shows how many days you have left in the 90/180-day period. It does not count time in Schengen that began before 10 April 2026.
What UGE asks for
UGE’s document list asks for a legible copy of the whole passport, every page. We found no official UGE guidance on proving the entry date after the EES started. You have the right to request your own EES data from any Schengen state, which must reply within 45 days (Regulation 2017/2226, article 52), but it is not known whether UGE accepts this. If your entry date matters for your case, ask a qualified adviser what evidence to include.
Who EES does not cover
EES does not apply to holders of residence permits or long-stay visas. Once you have your Spanish permit and TIE card, your border crossings are not recorded in EES.
Frequently asked questions
Will my passport be stamped when I enter Spain?
Not at the external Schengen border since 10 April 2026. Your entry is recorded in the EU Entry/Exit System instead.
Do I need a declaración de entrada if I flew to Spain from another Schengen country?
Yes, if you are a non-EU national without a Spanish residence permit. Make it on arrival or within three days at any Policía Nacional station (Royal Decree 1155/2024, article 13).
What can I use to prove when I arrived?
Boarding passes, tickets and the declaración de entrada. EU rules name transport tickets as credible evidence of the dates of a stay.
Does UGE accept a screenshot of the EES tool?
No official source says so. UGE’s list asks for a full copy of your passport. Ask a qualified adviser if your entry date is in doubt.
